Rhizotrop 2® + SolubPhos® (Bradyrhizobium japonicum + Bacillus subtilis + Bacillus megaterium); tratamento 2. Rhizotrop 2® + Azotrop® (Bradyrhizobium japonicum + Azospirillum brasilense); tratamento 3. Rhizotrop 2® + Auras® (Bradyrhizobium japonicum + B. aryabhattai); tratamento 4. Rhizotrop 2® (Bradyrhizobium japonicum). As safras representaram ambientes contrastantes, desta forma o manejo hídrico e a inoculação influenciam o crescimento e a produtividade da soja.

Title

Biostimulants and water management on the yield and physiological quality of soybean seeds across two crop seasons in the Arenito Caiuá region

Abstract

Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] stands out among the world's most important legumes due to its widespread cultivation and high demand for grain. Its importance is tied to numerous industrial sectors, driven by its high protein and oil content. Given climate change and growing food demand, grain yield is influenced by factors such as plant genetics, high temperatures, soil type, and water availability. Accordingly, rational water management and the adoption of biological products can raise productivity and sustainability levels in the agricultural sector. Chapter 1: The objective of this study was to evaluate, across two agricultural growing seasons, the effects of five irrigation depths and four seed treatments using growth-promoting biostimulants on reproductive traits in soybean. Treatments consisted of five irrigation depths (0, 50, 75, 100, and 152% of crop evapotranspiration, ETc) and four biological treatments treatments 1. Rhizotrop 2® + SolubPhos® (Bradyrhizobium japonicum + Bacillus subtilis + Bacillus megaterium); treatments 2. Rhizotrop 2® + Azotrop® (Bradyrhizobium japonicum + Azospirillum brasilense); treatments 3. Rhizotrop 2® + Auras® (Bradyrhizobium japonicum + B. aryabhattai); treatments 4. Rhizotrop 2® (Bradyrhizobium japonicum). The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design (5 × 4 factorial), allowing for comparative and quantitative analyses of interaction effects. Descriptive analysis revealed strong yield heterogeneity at the 50% and 75% ETc depths, which showed the widest ranges and highest coefficients of variation. ANOVA revealed significant effects (p < 0.001) for both irrigation depth and inoculant, with irrigation depth accounting for 43% of yield variation. Effect sizes (η², partial η², and ω²) confirmed irrigation depth as the most influential factor, followed by the Year × Depth interaction, reinforcing that water regime effects differed by growing season. Multivariate approaches revealed the complexity of the physiological responses. Non-metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS) revealed separation between growing seasons, indicating an environmental effect on the variables studied. Procrustes analysis confirmed reduced temporal stability at higher irrigation depths and greater stability under restrictive conditions (0% and 50% ETc), suggesting that water restriction limits physiological plasticity. Correlation heatmaps showed distinct patterns between years, with greater integration among reproduction, nodulation, and thousand-seed weight in 2025, whereas 2024 showed a more fragmented pattern, consistent with water restriction and heat stress. The GGE biplot synthesized the treatment × environment interaction, identifying the most productive and stable combinations. Irrigation at 100% ETc combined with Rhizotrop 2® + Azotrop®, Rhizotrop 2® + Auras®, or Rhizotrop 2® alone outperformed the overall mean and showed the greatest stability across growing seasons. Combinations at 75% ETc also performed well, particularly with co-inoculation of Rhizotrop® 2 + SolubPhos® and Rhizotrop 2® + Azotrop®. The two growing seasons represented contrasting environments; accordingly, both water management and inoculation influenced soybean growth and yield. Moderate irrigation (75 - 100% ETc) combined with growth-promoting inoculants optimized yield while reducing climate-related instability. Chapter II: This study evaluated the residual (carry-over) effect of plant growth-promoting biostimulants combined with different irrigation depths on the physiological quality and vigor of soybean seeds. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with a 2 × 5 × 4 factorial arrangements, analyzing two growing seasons, five irrigation depths (0, 50, 75, 100, and 125%), and four biological treatments: Treatment 1. Rhizotrop 2® + SolubPhos®, Treatment 2. Rhizotrop 2® + Azotrop®, Treatment 3. Rhizotrop 2® + Auras® and Treatment 4. Rhizotrop 2®. After harvest, seeds were subjected to laboratory analyses of germination, seedling and cotyledon length and dry mass, with results validated by the Scott-Knott test (p < 0.05). Results indicated that the 2024/2025 growing season restricted seedling vigor relative to the previous season, and the absence of irrigation (0%) reduced germination and initial biomass across all treatments. However, the bacterial consortium Rhizotrop 2® + SolubPhos® acted as an effective attenuator of severe water stress, conferring a transgenerational physiological priming effect on progeny and ensuring homeostatic growth stability with reduced depletion of cotyledon reserves. Finally, treatments showed treatment-specific responses to moisture availability: Rhizotrop 2® + Azotrop® required a minimum water supply of 75% to express increases in vigor, whereas Rhizotrop 2® + Auras® conferred plasticity and root protection under conditions of water excess (125%).
